DM-Aid regularly sends 40-feet containers with clothes, hospital-equipment, handicap-assistance-equipment etc. to emergency areas around the world. As examples of the last couple of years shipments, we have sent containers to Pakistan, Uganda and Afghanistan.
Since we do not have permanent storage space we can not have an enduring service for clothing and equipment. Therefore, the container shipment often takes place on an ad-hoc basis. When a container shipment is planned it is often packed by volunteers and the time and place of the packaging is announced on the homepage.
The price for a delivery varies greatly on the destination. As an example, a container sent to Lebanon and Pakistan costs around DKR 18000-20000 (€ 2400-2700). To the Sudan and Somalia it costs around DKR 35000 (€ 4700)
It is not always the distance which is decisive. Huge ships with destination of Hong Kong or Singapore often stop in Pakistan and therefore the prices are lower comparatively to east Africa.
If a container has to be sent to a destination in Africa without a port it can cost from DKR 50000 (€ 6700).
